For Fiscal Year 2026, when compared to the prior year through August 31, North Carolina experienced an increase in General Fund receipts which include tax and non-tax receipts. Tax revenues increased by $284.3 million or 5.8 percent, and non-tax revenues decreased by $16.7 million, or 8.6 percent as compared to the previous year.
The General Fund’s unreserved fund balance as of August 2025 was $1.6 billion as compared to $2.6 billion as of August 2024.

The General Fund’s unreserved fund balance as of July 2025 was $1.7 billion as compared to $3.1 billion as of July 2024.
