If you're currently exempt from Federal or NC State taxes and wish to continue, a letter will be sent to your address by early December. To maintain exempt status beyond February 2026, submit a new W-4 and/or NC-4 by February 1, 2026. HR at local agencies handles updates. If not updated, taxes will be withheld at prior rates or default to single with zero dependents.
